You don't need a garden to grow a salad - just a few pots or boxes, a little imagination and a balcony or window sill.
Most salad plants grow well in a confined space
If you feed your potted plants regularly, they will produce abundantly. The only other necessity is sunlight, but many salad ingredients can thrive in broken light, and most window sills and balconies are excellent sun traps.
Don't think you have to grow your plants in proper pots. Anything can contain plants as long as there is good drainage and a good potting mix.
If you short on growing space you should try hanging pots from the ceiling or a door jam. Try placing a desk or table near to a window to catch the light or, outside, create a hanging garden that will cover bare walls as well as being productive.
